'Starfield' Will Be the Meme Game for Years to Come
For the past five years, the YouTuber Bacon_ has been uploading funny video game clips, nearly all of which come from titles made by Bethesda Game Studios. With the release of Starfield this week, Bacon_ has new fodder. "Just trying to get through my shift," which was posted four days ago, shows a Starfield NPC pounding a mining laser into his colleague's crotch. "So Starfield is out, and it's definitely a Bethesda game," Bacon_commented. For video games, technical difficulties come with the territory.
'Fallout 4' and other Bethesda games will get a frame rate boost on Xbox
Microsoft launched the FPS Boost feature on the Xbox Series X and S in February to breathe new life into backwards-compatible Xbox One titles. At the the time, only five titles got the upgrade, which gives you a way to play the older games at higher frame rates without mods. Now, five more Bethesda games are getting FPS Boost support: Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Prey, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition and Dishonored: Definitive Edition. The newly added entries to the list of games with FPS Boost were revealed during the latest episode of The Official Xbox Podcast with Xbox Live's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb and Xbox senior communications manager Jeff Rubenstein. All five are available on Microsoft Game Pass, making them playable on both Xbox and PC.

Starting Friday, subscribers to Xbox Game Pass will see a new wave of games from Bethesda Softworks, whose parent company was acquired by Microsoft for $7.5 billion. In a statement Thursday, Microsoft said it will release 20 Bethesda games on Friday to Game Pass, the Xbox's subscription service providing access to dozens of video games for a monthly fee. The games span several Bethesda-owned properties, including Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Doom. A handful of games will feature FPS boost, which provides a significant increase to a game's frame rate per second, resulting in a smoother gameplay experience, says Microsoft. This week in games: Battlefield returns to WWII, 3D Realms' retro shooter channels Duke Nukem
That news, plus rumors Battlefield will head back to World War II this year, David Lynch teaches you typing, the ESRB takes less-than-zero action on loot boxes, and a bevy of trailers for Battletech, Heaven's Vault, Vermintide II, and more. This is gaming news for February 26 to March 2. Growing up I remember taking typing classes in school, and then continuing that learning at home with Mario Teaches Typing. I don't think either helped much, and it wasn't until the onset of AIM (rest in peace) that I started hitting my current 100-plus words per minute. Still, I've got a soft spot for those old educational typing tools, which means David Lynch Teaches Typing is the perfect blend of weird and nostalgia. The "Trial Version" is available for free on itch.io.
